NME reports that Scottish rockers Franz Ferdinand have just announced their first plans for gigs in 2017. The first date announced will see them headline the Belladrum Tartan Heart festival in their native Scotland. The Mercury Prize winners will also be supported by KT Tunstall, and take their place as headliners alongside the previously announced Sister Sledge. The event will take place between August 3-5 next year, and tickets for the festival can be found here.
Festival promoter Joe Gibbs was thrilled to welcome Franz Ferdinand to the festival’s bull, saying “I couldn’t think of a better act to close out the festival. And we are thrilled to be welcoming KT back. She played Bella before as an unannounced special guest but we are pleased to have properly on the bill this time.”
Franz Ferdinand suffered a blow earlier this year when guitarist Nick McCarthy announced he was leaving the band, with the band saying in a statement When we record or tour, it takes a long, full-time commitment lasting a minimum of a year and a half, most of which is spent away from home,” said the band in a statement. “Nick has a young family and does not want to be away from them for such a long period.”
Despite this, the band remained active, and instead released the track ‘Demagogue’ six weeks ago, contributing to the ’30 days, 30 songs’ project, along with the likes of Death Cab for Cutie, R.E.M, and My Morning Jacket as a form of musical protest against the now-President elect Donald Trump.
Franz Ferdinand are also confirmed to working on a new album, having not release an album as a band since 2013’s Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Actions, having released a collaborative album with Sparks in 2015 called FFS.
