Canadian post-hardcore outfit Silverstein have announced a new album entitled Misery Made Me, and have released a new single “Ultraviolet” via UNFD. You can view the music video for “Ultraviolet” below, and you can pre-order the upcoming album here.
Silverstein, always staying true to their post-hardcore roots, have managed to strike a balance between heaviness and melody with this new single, introducing the song with chugging, down tuned guitars and a haunting lead guitar melody, and then transitioning into a powerful, melodic vocal performance by singer Shane Told, topped off with an infectious chorus. Keeping in tradition with their roots, the band segue into a metalcore-styled breakdown around the middle of the song, launching the listener back into the sonic world of the early 2000s when Underoath and Norma Jean reigned supreme.
Guitarist Paul Marc said of the song’s themes: “Ultraviolet being invisible felt like the right way to describe it – to get lost in this unseeable thing. Ultraviolet light also causes physical damage to our skin, so it serves as a sort of ‘proof’ that something invisible like anxiety can hurt us.”
As the album title Misery Made Me might suggest, the lyrical themes of the record dive into some dark subjects, as singer Shane Told explained in a recent press release: “I wanted to explore the meaning of ‘Misery’ as a main theme throughout the album…Despite the mountains climbed and boulders pushed during recent years, we were confronted by the weight and misery of staying relatively in the same place for a long period of time. Finding peace in the reality of this misery became important. The record is about the acceptance of a new reality and adapting to it.” The track list for the upcoming record can be viewed below.
