Pete Doherty continues to pursue his solo career, and today announced he will play a gig at the Rough Trade East Record Store in London as well as releasing a new track ‘Kolly Kibber.’ You can check the track and video out below:
The title of the track references the protagonist of Graeme Green’s Brighton Rock and comes complete with a video. The track will feature on his second solo album, ‘Hamburg Demonstrations’ which is scheduled for release on the 2nd of December, 3 days before Doherty will perform the London show. The gig will be an acoustic set and will also include a signing session. The small venue means it promises to be an intimate affair which, according to Rough Trade, will mirror the album itself, which they describe as ‘his most intimate official release.’
Doherty has been working on the album, with producer Johann Scheerer, since early 2014 at Hamburg’s Clouds Hill Studios. When the album finally drops it will be seven years since his debut solo album, ‘Grace/Wastelands.’ Some of the material from the album is not strictly new, including the song, ‘She Is Far’ – which was written before Doherty released any music and has since been bootlegged online for many years. However, Doherty has spoken of the freshness and impact Scheerer has brought to the project, telling Rough Trade, ‘There’s that song ‘Down For The Outing’, I’ve had that for a while now, but it’s incredible how it sounds. I was worried about the songs like that – the ones people know – but Johann’s made it sound like a brand new song.’ Of course, Doherty has also performed many of the songs from the album live already. The album is available for pre-order, and for those who do, the latest track ‘Kolly Kibber’, as well as ‘I Don’t Love Anyone, But You’re Not Just Anyone’ and ‘The Whole World Is Our Playground.’
Doherty is a busy man, as well as solo touring and studio work, he is also reportedly working with The Libertines on their fourth album. Carl Barat spoke to NME and said of the band and the new album, ‘We’re looking to bed in together. We want to get our own place, which is a bit of a long and convoluted project. There’s a lot of planning and maybes which I can’t say too much about, but we’re looking at getting our own factory.’
The Rough Trade Event has already sold out online, according to their website, however tickets can still be purchased on the day of the event at the venue on a first come, first served basis. Doors will open at 6.30pm with Doherty on stage for 7pm. The show will not be his only UK gig, and will compliment previously announced shows in London on the 6th December and Manchester on the 7th. The line-up for these shows, per Live4ever, will include, Drew McConnell of Babyshambles and Jack Jones from Trampolene on lead guitar.
