It has been announced that a second figure to honour David Bowie will be unveiled this Spring at Madame Tussauds. The news was revealed on what would have been the icon’s 75th Birthday. Bowie’s second waxwork will be introduced along with the tourist attraction’s new music zone. Madame Tussauds took to Instagram to share the exciting news.
The official Madame Tussauds website provides the following press information concerning the upcoming reveal, “Due to be unveiled later in the year, the figure will both honour and celebrate Bowie’s immortal body of work and ongoing legacy which continues to inspire so many of the musical heroes that can be seen under Madame Tussauds London’s roof today.”
In celebration of the news, the London attraction has released never before seen photographs of Bowie sitting for his first figure. The legendary artist’s introduction into Madame Tussauds was in 1983 just after the release of the singer’s fifteenth studio album Let’s Dance. The London born singer was reported to be heavily involved within the process and provided artists with countless measurements and intricate facial details. Due to the hard work and teamwork between Bowie and the artists, the “Starman” singer’s waxwork remains a favourite and has provided the attraction’s team information to construct the singer’s 2022 figure.
The upcoming figure will stand as a testament to the enduring legacy imprinted by Bowie’s talent and presence. With a career spanning multiple decades and a discography consisting of over twenty-six albums, the singer has stood the test of time. Bowie’s influence is seen within all avenues of art and culture and can be seen in many of popular music’s most successful artists. Bowie is often regarded as one of the greats within the music industry and was named ‘Greatest Rock Star Ever’ by Rolling Stone Magazine.
Tim Waters, General Manager at Madame Tussauds London has given the following statement concerning Bowie’s second tribute, “David Bowie is one of music’s greats. On what would have been his 75th birthday the most fitting tribute for Madame Tussauds London to give to our old friend is the creation of a new figure. His music inspired the masses and, for so many, changed the way they viewed themselves, and we hope remembering him here will ensure that it continues to do so for centuries to come. We felt privileged to work with him back in the ’80s and are just as honoured to work with his estate now to continue the legacy of this truly outstanding music career.”
Along with the unveiling of Bowie’s second figure, the attraction will also be revealing further waxworks of music’s most powerful artists. The new inductees and figures will mark the re-opening of the attraction’s music zone; the opening has been billed as the most unique festival experience and will launch in March 2022.
