Kate Havnevik has confirmed the release date for her upcoming album, Lightship is set to be released on 21st January 2022 via Contientica Records. The multi-talented artist’s fourth studio album sees the singer team up with producer Guy Sigsworth. The duo hold a long-standing partnership with Sigsworth working on Havnevik’s debut album Melankton, released in 2006. The upcoming album includes further collaborations, the release features the talents of accomplished cellist Ian Burdge and OBE musician Talvin Singh.
Since the album’s new material was announced, the upcoming release has already sired great reviews. Mojo Magazine has given the following rave review; “Kate Havnevik has always been good at inventing intimate dreamscapes… Lightship shows her returning to a more personal, experimental approach, with collaborator Guy Sigsworth enhancing and accentuating her choral delivery, quirky textures and shimmering skittering melodies”. Havnevik also took to her Instagram to share another rave review of her upcoming release.
The press release provides the following description for Havnevik’s forthcoming album, “Kate Havnevik is bursting with creativity that holds no bounds and the forthcoming album Lightship is a beautiful body of work pulling from the outer reaches of the electronic sphere, centralised under a fascinating pop scope and proving to be her most mesmerising album yet.” The press release continues to convey the album’s musicality and discusses the album’s origins, “The record is full of rare instrumentation and glorious songwriting, which delivers Kate Havnevik’s most progressive and beautiful record to date. It has been named after London’s most unique floating recording studio on the River Thames, Lightship 95, where the pair recorded the album.”
The hotly anticipated album has already sired four singles, “Taking Flight” was the first single to be released. With an intro laced with harpsichord piano, the single exhibits a strong Baroque influence. The second single to be released “Into Dark” presents a much different sound, fuelled by a pulsating electro bass the single cascades into a dark synthesised audio world. The album’s third single entitled “Starlight Fires” portrays a much lighter electronic space, along with atmospheric lines the track launches the listener to a dreamy celestial soundscape.
The album’s fourth single “Dream Her To Life” is the LP’s recent release. The track is also the topic for the singer’s first episode of ‘The Lightship Conversations’, a new series in which the singer and Sigsworth discuss particular tracks from the upcoming album. The first episode breaks down “Dream Her To Life” and is available to watch on Havnevik’s YouTube channel with new episodes posted until 9th February 2022.
Havnevik first rose to popularity with her self-released debut album Melankton; the release included many singles which found success within popular TV shows. The tracks “Unlike Me” and “Nowhere Warm” were both featured on the hit TV show Grey’s Anatomy, further success with TV musical placement soon followed.
