Mo The Comedian has announced he will be donating his Brit Awards presenting fee to grassroots charity ‘Five X More’.
The Comedian took to his social media to share the news alongside a caption that read; “Last year I had the year of my life it was amazing so I’m starting how I finished, I’m starting it by hosting the 2022 brits award & I’m extremely excited to be donating my brits fee to fivexmore_ they do amazing work in the community and when the spotlight is on me it’s only right I shine it on others. Give these ladies a follow to see the amazing work they do for maternal health”
This year’s Brit Awards will be Mo’s first time presenting the awards show, and he feels he should share all the success he has with others and is doing so with this donation. Although no numbers are being released, it will no doubt be a sizeable donation from the comedian who in the last few years has worked his way to the forefront of UK entertainment.
‘Five X More’ is a grassroots charity that looks into the maternal care of black women. The name ‘Five X More’ came from when the campaign started in 2018, when black women were five times more likely to die during pregnancy than white women. The number in the 2020 report suggests there has been some improvement but are still horrifically high, with black women now four times more likely to die during pregnancy.
The charity is dedicated to supporting mothers with its work and recommendations, focusing on empowering black women to make informed choices and advocate for themselves throughout their childbirth and after pregnancies.
Mo Gilligan is a trailblazer for black entertainment in the UK; a Netflix special, late-night show on channel 4 and selling out the 02 are just a few of his achievements as he continues to push his career while also empowering and aiding his community.
