Alternative rock duo Blood Red Shoes have dropped a new single from their upcoming album, Ghosts on Tape, which will be released on 14th January via Velveteen Records. Blood Red Shoes drummer Steven Ansell described the track, which is titled “I Am Not You”, as taking “industrial synths and guitars distorted through the cheapest digital interfaces we could find”, and smashing “them together into one harsh metallic slab of pure rage”. The song is the second release from the new album, following on from last month’s “Morbid Fascination”, the sound of which the band described as “us being completely & unapologetically us.“

The release of the new album will be followed up by a tour. Firstly the band will be embarking on a series of nine dates around the UK, visiting a number of areas such as Bristol, Nottingham, Birmingham and Glasgow. This will take place in January starting on the 18th. Afterwards, the group will be expanding their horizons throughout Europe, seeing France, Spain, Netherlands, Germany and even going as far as Russia. For those interested in a complete list of dates, they can go to the band’s website here.
According to Ansell in a recent interview: “This album is really about us asserting ourselves as our own little island. We have made an entire career out of being told what we are ‘not’, of being rejected, of not fitting in, and this album is us deliberately pushing into all of our strangeness, emphasising all of the things that make us different.” He described it as an “an invitation”, showing us their “darkest thoughts and feelings – our ghosts – caught on tape. You are welcome to join us. Come and embrace the strange.” For those of you interested in pre-ordering the album, you can go here.
The band, consisting of Steven Ansell and Laura-Mary Carter, formed in Brighton back in 2004. They have already released 5 albums, with this newest release making it six. Ghosts on Tape will be following up their 2019 effort Get Tragic, as well as an EP released last June, entitled Ø after “the symbol on audio equipment to invert the signal”, which spawned the single “A Little Love”. In other news, Laura-May Carter’s solo career seems to be taking off with the release of her mini-album Town Called Nothing, due 3rd December.
