Who? Some may ask. But having seen the recent success of Rick Astley’s return, the ‘classic’ bands from the 80s will always make a sound and popular return. Bros will be performing London’s O2 Arena on 19 August 2017; 28 years since Matt and Luke Goss played to a massive 77,000 at Wembley Stadium (19 August 1989) together.
Then there was Bros fashion. Ripped jeans, leather jackets, and Grolsch bottle tops attached to their shoes. Many copied the Goss brothers’ spiky hairdo to add to the Bros look!
Luke Goss had this to say about their anticipated 30th anniversary concert:
“I’ve always wanted it to happen in my heart. But I wanted it to be the right time.
“I didn’t want to resist it any more,” Luke told reporters. The brothers said it will be “a contemporary show that stands up.
“We’re going to honour the songs, some of the key sounds,” continued Luke.
“But at this stage, I don’t want to populate the show with new stuff. If it was to happen again [after that] then maybe so.”
Remember the third member – Nick Logan? He will not be joining the reunion and left the band at just 19 not wanting the fame that would follow. What did follow were royalty lawsuits. He won a million-pound settlement, and, ironically his new found experience of the financial and legal side of the music industry propelled him into a new career. Nick said:
“I never, ever wanted to be famous, OK? Even though the title of the song said it all, that was never my intention. Whereas the other two guys, they really wanted to be famous. The scrutiny was too much and maybe I wasn’t emotionally and mentally mature enough to deal with it at that age.”
At the time Nick Logan was dating pop star Kim Appleby (from Mel & Kim), whose twin sister (Mel) was losing the battle to cancer. The combination of pressurised fame alongside family bereavement was too much.
Today, Nick Logan runs his own company Logan Media Entertainment (LME) and represents artists such as Anastacia, former JLS’s Aston, Cher Lloyd, and Dido.
Bros initially released the single ‘I Owe You Nothing’ in 1987 reaching just Number 88 in the UK Charts. This was later reissued in the same year and became their first and only UK Number One. It was ‘When Will I Be Famous?’ which immediately stormed Bros into the spotlight reaching Number 2. ‘Drop The Boy’ followed; also peaking at Number Two. The catchy ‘I Quit’ continued momentum achieving Number Four in 1988 from their debut album Push.
Apart from remixes and ‘Best ofs’, Bros released three studio albums. Following Push was The Time (1989), and Changing Faces (1991).
Tickets go on sale this Friday (7 October).
