Green Day are the first act to be announced for the UK day festival British Summer Time in Hyde Park next July.
The American rock band will take to the Great Oak Stage on July 1, where they will showcase their forthcoming album Radio Revolution on what will be the festival’s fifth birthday. Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has said to NME: “London in the summer, us and tens of thousands of fans having the biggest party in one of the world’s most legendary venues. We have the best year to look forward to and this has just made it extra special.”
The Libertines, The Strokes, Blur, Taylor Swift, The Rolling Stones and Stevie Wonder have all headlined British Summer Time in the past. Last year Florence and the Machine and Mumford and Sons all performed too.
James King, Senior Vice President of AEG Live, said to The List : “We’re super excited to be announcing Green Day as our first headliner for 2017. So many hits and also some amazing new music as well. London is going to be treated to one of the best stadium bands of our generation on the Great Oak Stage in Hyde Park.”
The lead single for Revolution Radio, ‘Bang Bang’, was released on August 11th and reached number three on the US Alternate Songs chart. Before their slot at BST Hyde Park, Green Day will be touring Europe in January and February, visiting Italy, Germany, Sweden, France and, of course, the UK. They’ll play Leed’s First Direct Arena, the Manchester Arena and London’s O2 Arena between February 6th and 8th.
Revolution Radio is out on October 7th 2016 through Reprise Records. Tickets for BST will be available on the same day at 9am.
