Taking place on 13 October in St. Paul, Minnesota, the official Prince tribute concert will feature some big names connected to Prince for the celebration. Prince (born Prince Rogers Nelson) grew up in the twin city of Minneapolis. Prince’s family initially wanted this concert to be held here in the NFL stadium but organisers preferred the more intimate 20,000 capacity Xcel Energy Center, St. Paul. It was said to be a “business and creative decision” to change venues.
In 2004 Prince held the record for the most sell-outs at the Xcel Energy Center, a feat more recently joined by Talyor Swift.
Tickets will go on sale on Monday 19 September (or 9/9 – see the connection?) where some will be priced at $19.99 as a tribute.
One of the organisers and former lawyer to Prince who is in charge of managing the estate’s entertainment assets, said in a statement:
“It’s an all-star mix of classic and new artists – Prince-inspired as well as Prince family-type artists.”
Stevie Wonder will headline the concert and will be joined by the below artists:
Christina Aguilera
Chaka Khan
John Mayer
Tori Kelly
Anita Baker
Doug E Fresh
Luke James
Bilal and Mint Condition
Also, from Prince’s inner circle, a list of artists add to the celebrations:
Morris Day and the Time
Judith Hill and Liv Warfield
The New Power Generation, led by Morris Hayes
3rdEyeGirl (some members)
