Radiohead have released the studio version of a fan favourite song from the OK Computer-era, entitled “Follow Me Around”. The song has been performed live a number of times, and a high-quality live recording of the song can be found on the band’s 1998 film Meeting People Is Easy. The song is a part of Radiohead’s upcoming Kid A Mnesia album, which was announced back in September.
The song itself is very stripped back and certainly inhabits the same musical vein as many of the songs on OK Computer, with the entire track consisting of no more than a moody acoustic guitar and Thom Yorke’s vocals. In addition to “Follow Me Around”, Radiohead also recently released a previously unheard track entitled “If You Say The Word”, an atmospheric, hypnotic slow burner.
This song will also be featured on the upcoming Kid A Mnesia record, which will be released on November 5th by XL Recordings. Kid A Mnesia will be a triple album, and is being released for the 21st anniversary of both Kid A and Amnesiac. The album will feature both Kid A and Amnesiac in their entirety, along with a third disc of unreleased material from those same recording sessions. The band have released music videos for both of these singles, which can be viewed at the Youtube links below, or on the band’s YouTube channel.
In other recent news regarding Radiohead, Jonny Greenwood has recently shared music from his score to Pablo Larrain’s Spencer, which stars Kristen Stewart as the late Princess Diana. The full score will be released on November 12th via Mercury KX. You can read more about this here. Furthermore, and in light of Kid A’s 21st anniversary, Thom Yorke recently spoke to NME regarding the album, sharing the fact that he faced writer’s block during the writing process.
Yorke said of his bout with writer’s block; “We finished touring and I was sort of trapped in my own particular labyrinth, followed by this weird sort of [inner] monologue, a criticism of everything I did… it came from being sort of propelled into this weird state where people were projecting things onto me in a particular way. I didn’t have the right sort of support mechanisms to deal with it, so I internalised a lot of it.”
Kid A Mnesia will be released on numerous different vinyl variants, and in addition, two books by Thom Yorke and Stanley Donwood that contain visual art conceived around the Kid A/Amnesiac era will be released on November 4th. You can pre-order the album here, and the track list for the third CD on Kid A Mnesia can be viewed below.
