As parliament regrouped to celebrate the life of Jo Cox MP ahead of the highly anticipated Glastonbury Festival, it has been announced that the first ever Glastonbury live album will be dedicated to Jo Cox MP and her extensive charity work including working with Oxfam and supporting refugees.
The live album entitled: Oxfam Presents: Stand As One – Glastonbury Live 2016 will be a compilation of performances from this year’s line-up and is to be released on July 11.
Emily Eavis, co-organiser, said:
“We are making this special live album from Glastonbury this summer because the scale of the refugee crisis is so huge we simply had to do something.
“We want people who are far from home and frightened to know we are doing whatever we can to help. To know the artists who play here are doing whatever they can. To know the people who love their music are doing whatever they can.
“Now it’s time for world leaders to do the same. All of us – Glastonbury, Oxfam, musicians and music-lovers everywhere must Stand As One to demand action for refugees.”
Oxfam promote this album with the following statement:
The world is in the middle of the most serious refugee crisis since the Second World War. We are standing as one with the millions of people forced to flee conflict, disaster and poverty to make sure they get the essential help and protection they urgently need.
More than 65 million people have been forced to leave their homes by terrifying conflict and violence, millions more by natural disaster and poverty. These are people like you and me who have often been torn away from their families, children who are on their own.
You can make a stand, and together we can stand as one.
The album can be purchased here, is available for pre-order, and an optional petition to the prime minister can be signed. The Glastonbury Festival begins Friday 24 June.
