The viral success on TikTok of Oliver Nelson’s remix of The Wombats 2015 hit “Greek Tragedy” has brought in a whole new group of fans from a new generation, with over 30 million streams on a platform that was not around when they first debuted Glitterbug in 2015. The Wombats have been revising what indie music can be since Proudly Presents… A Guide to Love, Loss & Depression (2007). Now as they prepare for their new album, each single shows us that the band still have the electricity that they first brought with them as a new band.
Following the announcement of their headlining European tour in May 2022, indie hitmakers The Wombats release “Ready For The High”. This is the latest single from, their fifth studio album, Fix Yourself, Not The World- due to release on 7th January 2022. An album made in the deep of lockdown over zoom.
The track comes after the singles “Method to the Madness” and “If You Ever Leave, I’m Coming with You”, some of their best quality 7-inches to date. The track comes with a video of the band playing the song, which captured the excitement of their famous live shows; like their recent appearance at Reading and Leeds and Neighbourhood Weekender. Frontman Matthew “Murph” Murphy had this to say: ‘’Ready for the High’ is a 90’s inspired track that I was excited to toss a load of trumpets into. The song is about being engulfed in a bad place, but rather than accepting this as immutable, acknowledging that it is only temporary and that better times are closer than they (currently) appear.”.
The Wombats have accompanied their latest single with a steller European tour, and additional dates in the UK due to high demand. With appearances at London’s O2, Paris’ La Machine Du Moulin Rouge, and even Rockefeller Music Hall in Oslo- to name a few of the incredible shows lined up for next year.
