Coldplay and BTS announced their new collaborative single “My Universe” released today September 24th and details of their documentary to accompany the single ‘Inside My Universe’ set for release on September 26th.

Coldplay was formed in 1996 with frontman Martin (Vocalist, rhythm guitarist and pianist), John Buckland (lead guitarist), Guy Berryman (bassist) and Will Champion (drummer). The band have sold over 100 million records worldwide and have released eight studio albums to date. The band is set to release their ninth studio album Music of The Spheres on October 15th.
BTS is a seven-member group from South Korea with Kim Seok-Jin (Known as Jin/Singer and songwriter), Min Yoon-Gi, (Known as Suga/ Rapper, singer and songwriter), Jung Ho-Seok (Known as J-Hope/ Rapper, songwriter, dancer and record producer), Kim Nam-Joon (Known as RM/ Rapper, singer and record producer), Park Ji-Min (Known as Jimin/ Singer, songwriter and dancer), Kim Tae-Hyung (Known as V/ Singer, songwriter and actor) and Jeun Jung-Kook (Known as Jungkook/ Singer and songwriter) making up the band lineup.
The band was formed in 2010 and released their debut album 2 Kool 4 Skool on June 12th 2013, the band also released their first Korean language album Dark & Wild on August 19th 2014 and their Japanese album Wake Up on December 24th 2014. The band released their latest compilation album entitled BTS The Best on June 16th. The band is known for their hit singles “Boy With Luv” (Featuring Halsey 2019), “Dynamite” (2020) and “Butter” (2021).
The band have sold 20 million albums on the Gaon Music Charts and are considered to be the best South Korean artist in history with their ninth album Map of The Soul: 7- The Journey (2020) being the best selling album in South Korea to date. The band released their last single “Permission To Dance” on July 9th with the new single being their fourth single release this year. The collaboration single was written by both bands with Swedish record producer, songwriter and retired singer Max Martin. The single is available in both English and Korean. Martin expressed that working with BTS was a joy and said “I love them, and we love them, and it’s been such a joy”
Martin in describing the creation of the single said that it evolved from a loving text message which contained the title of the single “My Universe”. Martin further explained that the collaboration with BTS developed when he heard that the band wished to collaborate with Coldplay. V from BTS previously expressed a wish to work with Coldplay and the band covered Coldplay’s songs for their special performance during MTV Unplugged on February 23rd.
The bands also released details of their new single being reworked, as well as plans to release a new video following the release of the documentary ‘Inside My Universe’. Martin also teased the soon to be released video for the single directed by Dave Meyers.
Meyers recently directed Coldplay’s video for their single release “Higher Power” released on May 7th. Max Martin co-produced the single with Oscar Holter and Bill Rahko who also co-produced Coldplay’s single “Everyday Life” released in 2019. A release date for the video has not yet been announced and an official lyrical video has been released in the interim. Following the release of “My Universe,” the single has topped the US iTunes charts and is also top of the charts in 80 countries. A Supernova 7 mix and an acoustic version of the single is set for release on September 27th. Coldplay is also set to release their single “Weirdo” for an unannounced musical and will also be performing at Global Citizen Live tomorrow September 25th with BTS who will also be performing at the global event.
