After months of suspense, Blink-182 fans finally have the news they’ve been waiting for: a single is to be released within the next few weeks. Rumours began when a mysteriously untitled Blink-182 song was listed on radio industry’s website as a future release, then the news was quickly confirmed by KROQ radio station’s music director, Lisa Worden, who divulged to KROQ:
We can expect to hear the first song in April.
It’s indicative that Lisa Worden is considered by the band as a musical confidant – reportedly, she has heard every Blink album prior to its release. Unsurprisingly, Blink’s frontman Mark Hoppus gave Worden an exclusive preview of the band’s next album which is fully recorded, as reported earlier this month; read more here. The band have revealed that they’ve recorded almost 50 songs and are in the process of selecting which ones will make the album – and despite only hearing eight of them, Worden is full of confidence, saying:
I think any fan of Blink-182 is going to be ecstatic when they hear the music, I really do. It sounds like Blink-182 but it sounds like Blink in 2016. Lyrically, it’s clever. […] As a fan of the band for the last 20 years, I was so happy with what I heard. It was the band I’ve loved all these years.
Blink’s new material will be their first since 2011 album Neighborhoods, and will be the first to feature new guitarist Matt Skiba of Alkaline Trio, who joined following long-term member Tom DeLonge’s departure last year. Worden admitted she “didn’t know what to expect” of Skiba’s involvement, then went on to explain that in their new material, Hoppus takes the lead vocally and Skiba lends harmonies.
An official date or title for the new single is yet to be announced but if Worden’s shining review is anything to go by, the five year wait is sure to have been worth it.
