Celebrated artist Lorde has released a new single entitled “Mood Ring’”, along with her new track the singer has also announced her third studio album and global tour dates.
The Grammy award-winning artist brings her trademark ethereal style to the new track whilst featuring a dynamic pairing of catchy acoustic guitar riffs and insightful lyrics. The single’s accompanying music video sees a blonde Lorde dance and sing in a commune-esque setting, clearly hinting at a 60’s free love inspired aura.
The new single and video set the 1960’s spiritual energy fuelled theme in which Lorde has taken on for her new music. Within the new music’s press release the “Royals” singer has spoken on her approach and the inspiration behind “Mood Ring” and forthcoming album Solar Power. “This is a song I am very excited about, it’s so much fun to me. Obviously, when making this album I did a deep-dive into 60s, Flower Child culture. I wanted to understand the commune life, dropping out from society and trying to start again. That really resonated to me when writing this album. One thing that occurred to me as a major parallel between that time and our time is our wellness culture and our culture of spirituality, pseudo-spirituality, wellness, pseudo-wellness. Things like eating a macro-biotic vegan diet or burning sage, keeping crystals, reading tarot cards or your horoscope. These were all things that they were dabbling in back then, and that me and my girlfriends are dabbling in today. I was like “I think there’s a pop song in here”. So this is kind of my extremely satirical look at all of those vibes.”
The New Zealand born multiplatinum-selling artist has also announced the release date for her third studio album, 20th August 2021. The new album will feature 12 tracks and has been produced by Jack Antonoff, the pair worked together prior on Lorde’s previous album Melodrama. Antonoff is also known as the guitarist and drummer in Indie band Fun, the group are best known for their 2013 Grammy Award-winning song “We Are Young”. Lorde is also no stranger to Grammy awards, the singer won two Grammy awards for her debut album Pure Heroine. Released in 2013, the album’s chart-topping single “Royals” launched the then-teenager into complete stardom and implemented the young artist into the zeitgeist of pop culture.
The single not only won Lorde multiple awards and rewarded her with critical acclaim but also confirmed her firm standing within the music industry and she became “the youngest solo artist and the only New Zealander to achieve #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 since 1987″ as stated in the press release. The singer also became one of this millennium’s most celebrated artists with various respected institutions charting her rise, Time elevated the artist as one of the “Most Influential Teenagers in the World,” and Forbes included Lorde in their 30 Under 30 List. The singer’s status was confirmed further by her Rolling Stone cover and appearance at the Rock and Roll hall of fame in 2014, within the ceremony the singer landed a once in a lifetime opportunity where she performed alongside Nirvana.
Adding to her trailblazing reputation and reaffirming the new album’s musical and lyrical topic, the new album will be released with eco-friendly packaging as a music box. Solar Power will be a first for musical releases, the new disc-less format will be comprised of the special features in which fans would come to expect from a traditional CD physical format. Included in the new environmentally friendly packaging will be visual features, personal content such as handwritten notes, photos and a card for downloadable content which can be used to download the album’s tracks and will also include two exclusively recorded bonus songs.
Lorde has provided the following statement in the press release on the ground-breaking natural focused packaging conception “I decided early on in the process of making this album that I also wanted to create an environmentally kind, forward-thinking alternative to the CD. I wanted this Music Box product to be similar in size, shape and price to a CD, to live alongside it in a retail environment, but be something which stands apart and that’s committed to the evolving nature of a modern album.”
Lorde will embark on her world tour in 2022, the singer will hit the road in February next year and will perform at New Zealand, Australia, the US, Canada, Europe and the UK.
