Iconic footwear manufacturer Vans has long been vocal in its support for the creative industries, sponsoring Warped Tour since 1996 and closely associating the brand with musical subcultures of all genres, appealing directly to new generations, embracing change and encouraging creative innovation with its Off The Wall brand – from humble beginnings manufacturing deck shoes in California in 1966, this March marks Vans’ 50th anniversary.
To celebrate the occasion in suitably creative fashion Vans will be holding a number of pop up House of Vans experiences at select locations worldwide which are to feature performances from a variety of musicians and DJs. On March 18th London’s House of Vans venue will play host to a range of both local and nationwide performers in the name of capturing a broad scope of versatility and individuality on the UK music scene. Acts set to perform are:
Dizzee Rascal
Ratboy
The Fat White Family
Annie Mac
Julio Bashmore
Kirsty Harper
As well as live music, the House of Vans experiences will incorporate D.I.Y. workshops, skate and BMX demos, a retrospective look at the brand’s legacy, a gallery of art and photo installations and shoe personalisation to ensure an interactive experience with the intent of connecting with the communities who have contributed towards making Vans the global name it is today.
Vans’ senior director of global brand marketing April Vitkus told Billboard:
We really wanted to honour our heritage in enabling creative expression. The global idea was to expand the accessibility to the House of Vans. It’s such a unique, cultural hub for the brand that it was important to us to celebrate in as many communities as we could. […] Every location has a unique local flavour but still feels inherently Vans. […] This is really a pivot point for the rest of 2016 and beyond.
