British rockers Glass Animals have released their latest video, the video is for the song ‘Space Ghost Coast To Coast’ taken from their 2020 album ‘Dreamland’.
The band posted some stills of the video as well as an interesting comment posted in reaction to the new music video.
The band’s latest video was directed by Max Siedentop, the young director responsible for Norwegian singer Sigrid’s music video for the 2019 track ‘Mine Right Now’. The strikingly unusual video stars frontman Dave Bayley, Bayley is seen dancing and striking various positions around London amongst figures seemingly in nude costumes as well as other psychedelic effects.
Singer, Songwriter and producer Dave Bayley had this to say about the track’s meaning.
‘Space Ghost’ is about someone I knew growing up in Texas…We drifted apart when I moved away at 13, but I found out a few years later he did something truly awful. The lyrics of the track are just wondering what makes someone change so much from being an innocent kid to someone who can even consider doing what he did. It talks about how in the 2000s, violent video games and lyrics were blamed by the media for that type of misbehaviour in teenagers…but really I think there were much bigger societal problems at play.”
Bayley then relates the lyrical meaning with the concept used in the band’s new music video and discusses the band’s work process throughout lockdown.
“The video is a twist on those video games. Every video we have made in the last year has been made in peak lockdown…we had to get creative. In this case, Max came up with the idea that he could film me dancing in the park while sitting in his apartment. He was giving me direction the whole time via phone in my earbuds. It starts there and gets more and more surreal.”
The album in which features ‘Space Ghost Coast to Coast’ was released on 7th August 2020 after having to delay the initial release date of 10th July 2020. The release was the band’s first studio album since their 2016 album ‘How to Be a Human Being’, making ‘Dreamland’ their third studio album. Along with the latest release the album has released five singles, with the most popular single being ‘Heat Waves’. The single was released on 29th June 2020 and along with the release, the band launched a competition to remix the track. The winner of the competition was a 19-year-old British producer named Shakur Ahmad, his winning remix was issued by the band in August 2020. DJ Diplo also remixed the Oxford band’s track and the remix was also issued alongside the competition winner’s entry.
