Lead singer of Kaiser Chiefs (also judge on the BBC’s ‘The Voice’) Ricky Wilson has confirmed reports that Kaiser Chiefs are working and recording on a new album; this is set to be their fifth studio album, and their first since their last release in 2013 of ‘Education, Education, Education & War’.
Wilson has said that he expects the album to be ready around the summer:
“We’re recording it. We’re back in the studio, I was in the studio this morning. Back in the studio tomorrow,” Wilson said. “I think it’s going to be ready [for release] in June or August.”
Wilson also confirmed that in the new album the band was set to look at doing love songs:
“For the last ten years, I thought to write a universal song to appeal to everybody you had to talk about big topics… but we’ve never really written love songs. But then we’ve started to realise that it’s the personal politics that actually hit close to home emotionally. So it’s more of what people care about, which is what’s going on inside.”
Kaiser Chiefs burst onto the music scene in 2005 with their debut album ‘Employment’ which included hit songs such as ‘I Predict a Riot’ and ‘Everyday I Love You Less and Less'; both of which helped thrust the band into widespread media limelight. Their debut album was remarkably successful as well, eventually being nominated for the Mercury Prize.
However the band was far from done there, with their second release ‘Yours Truly, Angry Mob’ was released in 2007 and again met with widespread acclaim. This time around Kaiser Chiefs tackled a lot more social issues within their lyrics, this can be seen in songs like ‘Ruby’ and ‘Everything is Average Nowadays’.
