The former Beatle, Sir Paul McCartney is being honoured for his musical and cultural contributions by Royal Mail. A new collection of stamps celebrating the music icon will be released on 28th May 2021.

The collection will feature a set of 12 stamps, 8 of which will be dedicated to the musician’s most important albums. The albums featured will span from his time as a Beatle, within Wings and his solo material. The album artwork chosen from his solo albums includes his initial solo album, ‘McCartney’, released in 1970. And the singer’s recent number one album, ‘McCartney iii’. released 2020. To make up the dozen in the set, 4 stamps, part of a mini-sheet will be photos showing the musician in the recording studio, all chosen from his triumphant thirty-year career.
A representative from Royal Mail, David Gold, made a statement concerning the collection.
“Paul McCartney remains a vital figure at the centre of rock and pop, an artist whose legacy is immense, but whose work continues to generate popular attention and critical acclaim. This dedicated stamp issue is a fitting tribute to one of the UK’s much loved and revered musical icons.”
This is not the first time McCartney has been honoured by Royal Mail, in 2007 a collection was released dedicated to the Beatles. The collection included six album covers including, ‘Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’, ‘Help!’, ‘Abbey Road’ and ‘Let it Be’. The set was also released to commemorate the 50th anniversary of John Lennon and Paul McCartney first meeting. McCartney will be joining the star-studded list of former honourees, including the 2019 collection dedicated to Sir Elton John. Another previous collection was dedicated to the icon and legend, David Bowie. The collection consisted of 10 stamps, with 6 based on the artwork from his albums, ‘Hunky Dory’, ‘Aladdin Sane’, ‘Heroes’, ‘Let’s Dance’, ‘Earthling’ and ‘Blackstar’. The rest of the collection featured photos over his forty years of stardom, with photos of the artist performing on his tours.
The collection will be available in many formats, including a presentation pack, a collector sheet, limited edition sets, medal covers and framed stamp sets.
