South London rapper’s Pete and Bas linked up with ‘What It Is’ for a brand new interview on what they think about current fashion trends, as part of the series ‘Trend or Trash.’
With a can of Stella Artois in hand, the interview begins with the pair announcing the video. The camera zooms in on their drip, which included a pair of black timberlands and a multitude of gold jewellery. They are asked “What brands/trends are you feeling at the moment?” Pete responds, “well I’m a mod… from the sixties, so my favourite brands are Levi’s, Ben Sherman, sort of warrior jackets, Harrington jackets, so yeah I am into clothes.” On the other hand, Bas exclaims that he is a fan of Hugo Boss, and the duo cheekily joke about how he loves lingerie brand Victoria Secrets.
‘What It Is’ go on to show Pete and Bas a series of clothing items that are currently new in, and the pair decide which garments are ‘Trend’ and which they deem to be ‘Trash.’ Among the items was a Balenciaga Hoodie, adorned with faux rips. On this, Bas says, “Oh you can’t be serious. Imagine if that was properly mended how much that would be.. nobody’s gonna pay £850 for a thing with holes in it.”
Some of the other items were a pair of Heron Preston Jeans, costing £760. Pete expressed how he had a pair of “Oxford bags” patchwork jeans when he was younger that he would have paid “possibly three-quarters” of his wages for. Next up was a Gucci suit, priced at over £3000; Bas said “this Italian stuff is very stylish, but you know one wash it’s a sink full of threads isn’t it?”
The South London rappers unanimously agreed that a full Adidas Originals blue track suit was a ‘Trend.’ Bas noted, “I’m very proud to wear mine, but I gotta tell you that my nine year old grandson said to me the other day when I put it on, he said ‘grandpa what are you wearing?’ so that was a bit of a downer.”
The rapping grandad duo are due to go on their debut tour later this year. In a statement on their upcoming tour, Pete said: “Our shows are always bloody mental. Bas stage dives, he almost broke his leg once. I’ve punched some geeza in the face and then kissed his forehead and brought him up on stage. We like to walk in that room and bring the whole crowd onto a whole new level. We tear it up and can promise anyone that comes will have the time of their life.”
