Singer-songwriter Jorja Smith has shared a new music video for her latest single, ‘Gone.’
Announcing the video’s release on Instagram, Jorja wrote: “Gone’ video out now shot by my sister @erincalexis, had to take her back home to WS, the lights shine differently there. Edited by @ivoralice and I link I bio.”
The music video for ‘Gone’ is shot by Erin Corrian-Alexis and edited by Ivor Alice and Smith herself. The video shows the artist as she strolls through an unknown location as she sings: “tell me how the world seems to get along without you// tell me how to keep my world moving without you// how can my world be much better off without you?” The grainy texture of the video shares the same DIY, shot-at-home vibe as her video for ‘Addicted,’ which was released last month. As the video ends, she teases another potential upcoming track.
Adoration has been pouring in from fans on Jorja’s latest video, with many writing about what the song and video mean to them. Posting about her fans interaction with the video on her Instagram story, Smith wrote: “Sending love to all who remember a love one they have lost when they listen to this. That’s exactly what it’s about. I love u guys so much. U all say what I can’t sometimes. Jorja World such a beautiful place we got eachother.” She continued in the next post: “I rarely find myself in the comments cus more times out of ten I’m gna stumble across something I acc don’t want to read. But this morning I read ur comments and I just felt so warm More times like this.”
The Walsall singer recently acknowledged what her music means to others in an interview following the release of ‘Gone.’ She said: “There’s something about being able to write about one thing and for it to mean so many different things to others,” she continued: “I love that this song, well any of my songs really, will be interpreted in different ways, depending on the experiences of the people listening. This one is just me asking why people have to be taken from us.”
Smith announced her latest single, ‘Gone’, last week and teased ‘something special’ due to be released on 14 May 2021. The ‘something special is now thought to be referring to her upcoming project, ‘Be Right Back.’ The eight-track project will be her first for nearly two years, although the 23-year-old assured it is not a replacement for an album, she explained: “It’s called be right back because it’s just something I want my fans to have right now, this isn’t an album, and these songs wouldn’t have made it. If I needed to make these songs, then someone needed to hear them too.”
