‘Bored with lockdown?’ Elton John asks his fans on a TikTok video, with his husband David Furnish. In fact, they are inviting fans to their virtual pre-Oscars Party: in the video, we see the couple wearing dressing gowns and slippers, before changing their outfits into flowery suits – perfect for an Oscar ceremony – while asking everyone to follow their initiative.
The Rocketman, who is known for hosting viewing parties for the Academy Awards since 1992, is now giving the fans the opportunity of a lifetime. Indeed, for only £14.99 ($19.99), everyone can virtually celebrate with John and his guests. The show, hosted by actor Neil Patrick Harris, will include a special introduction hosted by Elton himself alongside his husband. Dua Lipa will also be performing as music guest of the night. Other names are yet to be announced for the full virtual line-up.
‘This year, we are bringing our Oscar Party into people’s homes for the first time virtually for an unforgettable evening with David, myself, our dear friend Neil Patrick Harris and the incredible Dua Lipa plus many fabulous surprise names’, John said to Music News. ‘Now more than ever, we need to ensure that one pandemic does not override another, and we cannot forget the 38 million people living with HIV globally who need our care, love and support so we hope everyone joins us for this special one-of-a-kind Oscar Pre-Party.’
With the Oscars taking place on April 25th, the event will be split between four different time zones – hence four different live streams. The first one starts at 4 pm PDT on April 25th (meaning midnight in the UK), and a later one stating at 7 pm British Summer Time on April 26th. All the ticket sales will be donated to Elton John’s AIDS Foundation. You can reserve your place here.
