The English giants of Electronic music, The Chemical Brothers, have leaked a preview clip on their Instagram to announce the release their new single ‘The Darkness That You Fear’.
The preview which showcases the band’s trademark sound mixed with a psychedelic approach also features an eye-catching aesthetic whilst providing the release date, 23rd April 2021. The Duo, consisting of Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons, have posted various teasers on social media over the past couple of days and have enlisted the talents of British artist Sir Terry Frost within their posts. The group have used the late abstract artist’s original material as the new single’s artwork and within their social media campaigns for the new release.
The single will be the duo’s first release in over two years, the band’s ninth studio album ‘No Geography’ was their last LP, released on 12th April 2019. The album won the group three Grammy awards in 2020 for the categories Best Dance/Electronic Album, Best Dance Recording and Best Music Video. The group took inspiration for the album title from the poem ‘’Geography’ by the famed and highly influential New York poet Michael Brownstein, the poet is often associated with beat poetry and is part of the second wave of New York School poets. The group also paid homage to the poet’s material by including a sample of the reading within the album itself.
As well as their new single release, the Manchester formed duo have also released a brand-new mix which sees the group celebrate their love of dub music. The hour-long mix was released in March of this year and includes artists such as Mixman, Dub Syndicate and King Tubby, the iconic musician and producer who is credited with the development of dub within the 1960s and 1970s.
The Chemical Brothers have promised that the mix was not a one-off, the duo has planned a series of mixes, which will all be themed. The pair have been working hard this year, besides the release of their mix and new single, Rowlands and Simons announced in January the launch of their new station. The pair’s new station, ‘Radio Chemical’, is available on Sonos Radio and is specially curated by the duo and features artists such as Jazz musician, Pharaoh Sanders and electronic pioneers, Kraftwerk.
