British rock legend Mick Jagger has joined voices with Foo Fighter’s Dave Grohl to release a pandemic-inspired song, ‘Eazy Sleazy.’
Announcing the song’s release on Instagram, the Rolling Stones frontman wrote: “MICK JAGGER WITH DAVE GROHL – EAZY SLEAZY I wanted to share this song that I wrote about eventually coming out of lockdown, with some much needed optimism – thank you to Dave Grohl @foofighters for jumping on drums, bass and guitar, it was a lot of fun working with you on this – hope you all enjoy Eazy Sleazy !”
The song, written by Mick Jagger, features his guitar and vocals, alongside Grohl on drums, backing guitar and bass. The track is inspired by lockdown and all the trials and trends that have come with the coronavirus pandemic. The lyrics cite flat earthers and ‘footballs fake applause.’ Jagger sings: “Looking out from these prison walls/ You got to rob Peter if you’re paying Paul/ But it’s easy easy / Everything’s gonna get really freaky/ Alright on the night /Soon it’ll be be a memory you’re trying to remember to forget/That’s a pretty mask/ But never take a chance TikTok stupid dance/Took a samba class yeah I landed on my ass/ Trying to write a tune you better hook me up to Zoom.”
The legendary pair also released a music video to accompany their song. Appearing remotely, in separate studios, the video begins with a snippet of Grohl on the drums in a filter of red; meanwhile, Jagger is filmed in black and white as he plays the guitar and begins to sing.
Speaking about the song with Rolling Stone magazine, Mick Jagger said: “It’s a reflection on the last year – the physical and mental strains put on society. The whole year, we’ve been doing this and going through different emotions through it and having false starts and stops and openings and closings.”
Dave Grohl announced ‘Eazy Sleazy’ via the Foo Fighter’s official Instagram, he wrote: “It’s hard to put into words what recording this song with Sir Mick Jagger means to me. It’s beyond a dream come true. Just when I thought life couldn’t get any crazier……and it’s the song of the summer, without a doubt!!”
Speaking with BBC 6 Music’s Matt Everitt, Jagger explained how he and Grohl got together. He revealed that their paths had crossed numerous times throughout the years and that they had kept in touch after meeting on Saturday Night Live. The pair also performed Stones shows together and a series of impromptu jams. The 77-year-old rock star said, “I like his style, he’s a great musician.”
