Recently completed recording their first highly anticipated album, Blossoms are booming the sounds of the Greater Manchester music scene once owned by the likes of The Smiths, Inspiral Carpets and The Stone Roses.
Arena Favourites
Getting used to future arena tours, Blossoms has been warming up the likes of The Libertines. I first saw Blossoms in December 2014 supporting a pre-Christmas flavour from Inspiral Carpets. Joining much of the early audience at the bar area for a pre-Inspiral pint, I was drawn to the catchy number ‘Blow’, a blossoming anthem in the making. I joined the modest collection enthusiasts standing at the front looking up to the charisma of lead singer Tom Ogden. I was treated to ‘You Pulled a Gun on Me’ preceding my Carpets favourites: ‘Move’, ‘Saturn Five’, ‘Joe’, ‘This is How it Feels’. I knew then Blossoms would be a band gig-goers will look up to in the coming years, and already they are furnishing memorable, blossoming tracks.
Stockport Welcomes Musical Survivors
There is no stopping Blossoms: arenas, Europe, Japan, festivals, radio broadcasts: frontman Tom Ogden recently told The Guardian’s Dave Simpson of another ambition: “Welcome to Stockport. Home of Blossoms.”
The Greater Manchester Sound
I grew up with the Manchester sound and The Smiths are clearly an influence. Yet I stick with the affinity with the infectious Inspiral Carpets numbers.
An exciting year ahead: joining Radiohead in Summer Sonic in Japan August 20 and 21; The Great Escape festival May 19 to 21; Isle of Wight Festival June 9 to12; and adding several European cities to their gig list creates an eclectic range of venues to tour their album songs and their EP. Recent announcements include their appearance at Live at Leeds on April 30. I will attend Leeds Brudenell Social Club on March 7 as a harbinger.
Blossoms are a busy band; all they ask is for you to continue blossoming them: from Stockport with push ‘n shove.
