Una Healy, one-fifth of the superstar girl group The Saturdays has recently spoken about a possible reunion.
The 39-year-old singer has given hope to fans everywhere when she spoke to The Sun about a possible reunion and by the sounds of it, it isn’t just Healy who feels this way, “I would love to do something with the girls again so we will see. I hope so while we are still fresh and young. I think it would nice to do it sooner rather than later. We have some great songs. Someone sent me a link to the megamix the other day and is it bad to say I was fangirling to it myself? I actually love that music. It’s so uplifting. I would love to get back out there.”
Healy has also said how she hopes that the band’s attendance at JLS’ reunion tour (now postponed until later in the year) will spark nostalgia into her bandmates hearts and that the show will push the members to reunite. The two groups are connected by marriage as well as music, JLS member Marvin Humes famously wed The Saturday’s singer Rochelle in 2012. The connections do not stop there, two members of The Saturdays were part of the early 00’s spin-off from S Club 7, S Club 8. Frankie Bridge and Rochelle Humes joined the ranks of the teeny boppers in 2001 through the reality show that spawned the band S Club Search.
Today marks Healy’s release of her solo single ‘Swear It All Again‘, co- written with Rachel Furner. An English singer songwriter with songwriting credits for many artists including British girl-group Little Mix, one of many girl groups whom benefited from The Saturdays’ success keeping girl-groups popular in the UK. Healy’s last single, ‘Until You‘, released last year, reached number one in the UK Country download chart and fans are expecting Healy’s new single to follow its path of success.
The Saturdays who disbanded in 2014 started their career supporting Girls Aloud on their ‘Tangled up’ Tour in 2008 and soon starting racking in the top ten hits themselves. Made up of the following members, Frankie Bridge (nee Sandford), Rochelle Humes (nee Wiseman), Mollie King and Vanessa White, the group quickly rose to the ranks of other successful girl-bands such as the Sugababes. The pop princesses’ debut album ‘Chasing lights’ released 27th October 2008 reached number eleven in the UK, then re-released on 16th March 2009 so that the album would include their Depeche Mode cover ‘Just Can’t Get Enough’ which was made the 2009 official single for Comic Relief and reached number two on the UK singles chart. The album gave the girls two more top ten singles, ‘Up’ and ‘Issues’. The group released three more albums and embarked on four headlining tours, the last being ‘Greatest hits Live!’ in 2014 just before their spit.
With a history of close friendships and a repertory full of credible pop songs, it would be a dream come true for any 00’s kid for the band to come together. Fans are sure to keep their eyes opened for any further news on their possible reunion.
