Emily Eavis, the Glastonbury Festival organiser has announced that the line-up for the popular festival this year will consist of more female-led acts after the demand by the public pushed through due to a realization of a continuous booking of male-based acts at major events (via MixMag). Last year, lots of people started to realize the controversy over the lack of women being booked for major festivals like this including English singer Ellie Goulding. In an article previously written on mxdwn, it was mentioned that Ellie Goulding had opened up to cosmopolitan about how she feels about the lack of women at major festivals – naming Glastonbury as a main example.
In 2014, a study showed that only 3.5 per cent of festival line-ups in that year were all-female bands compared to a significantly bigger 43 percent of all-male bands even though there are plenty of big all-female bands out there such as the likes of Haim. In an interview with Noisey, Eavis stated:
We are strong on women this year, I have to say, there are loads of great female MCs coming through this year which is quite exciting. Little Simz and Lady Leshurr and people like that.
