Irish singer-songwriter Fí has just released her newest single Over You. The song, which was produced by Matt Weir, explores the idea of struggling to leave a toxic relationship, even though you know it’s not good for you. This is Fí’s first release of 2021, following her single, All I Have which was released in February 2020.
Fí took to her Instagram to talk about the single, revealing it was RTÉ 2FM’s Track of The Week, saying; “every morning pre covid on my commute, I’d tune in every day and they never failed to brighten up the 6 am starts It’s such a dream that I’ll feature on the show every day next week.”
Speaking to Hotpress about the meaning of the song, Fí said; “The track is about the ending of a relationship, the redirection to something better. I do believe everything happens for a reason and sometimes we need something bad to happen to shake us and realise what’s really important. I made excuses, ignored the red flags and didn’t prioritise my needs and although was a shock to the system when it all ended, it also gave me a new lease of life. It taught me to put myself first and to always trust myself with choices in the future.”
Having learnt from her own experiences, Fí has uploaded a lot of content on Instagram about recognising red flags in relationships and setting boundaries, encouraging her fans that; “Trusting yourself is the most important thing you can do, if you feel something is off, no you’re not imagining it. The gut is our ‘second brain’ and when our brain tries to logically understand something, tuning into how you feel and leaning into that feeling is sooo important.”
The self-taught musician started writing after she bought her first guitar at 18. She then went on to release her debut single, Éalú in 2016, starting a whirlwind career. She’s performed at festivals such as Electric Picnic and Vantastival and supported massive acts such as The Academic, Freya Ridings and Aine Cahill.
