The British alt-rock band have teased fans by hinting at their third album. The title, ‘The Last Man On Earth’ could be the album, a new single or just a statement – no one knows. And that’s why it is so exciting! ‘Wolf Alice – The Last Man On Earth’ appears on the bands website, with a video of a creepy-looking eye. The webpage encourages fans to sign up and that’s all – cryptic but fans are insistent it means new music is on the way.
When typing in ‘The Last Man On Earth’ to Google, the 2015 sitcom is the first to appear. The sitcom is based on a deadly virus that wipes out the entire human race and focuses on those who survived. Sound familiar? The sitcoms main character, Phil, travels worldwide to find companionship and other survivors. This hints that perhaps whatever Wolf Alice have planned is something in line with the recent pandemic of COVID-19 and the hardships that came with it.
Wolf Alice broke their radio silence in 2019, after their latest album ‘Visions of Life’ in 2017, to state that they were writing new material for an upcoming album and encourage fans to register to vote. ‘Visions of Life’ gained wide critical acclaim, receiving 5 stars from NME reviews and bagged the band The Mercury Prize in the following year.
Last year, the bands record label manager, Jamie Oborne of Dirty Hit Records, stated that Wolf Alice were working on their craft – “The guys are just writing. The demos are pretty well formed, we’ve settled on a producer and they’ll be starting in about a month’s time. It’s going to be amazing. They’re an incredible band already but seem really inspired to make their best album.”
The bands guitar player, Joff Oddie, has been working on his own craft, creating a solo album in May 2020. ‘To Mr Fahey’ is a collection of folk instruments, named after the late, great guitarist John Fahey. All the proceeds of the album were donated to the anti-poverty charity ‘The Trussell Trust’ who support 1200 food banks across the UK.
Now it seems the time has come for the bands best album to appear. The mystery surrounding ‘The Last Man On Earth’ perpetuates the gap that fans have felt from the bands lack of new music and the excitement for whatever is to come. Be sure to sign up as soon as possible to get the latest news on ‘The Last Man On Earth’ and, what will undoubtedly be, a brilliant new whatever it is!
