A documentary starring Charli XCX will be premiered at SXSW 2021. The virtual film festival will show Alone Together on 18th March. It is the feature-length directorial debut of duo Bradley and Pablo, who also directed the singer’s music video for single 2099.
The film focuses on Charli XCX during the process of making her fourth album, how I’m feeling now, which came out in May 2020. She first announced the documentary back in July 2020. The album was written, recorded and released during the initial COVID-19 lockdown, and features singles Forever, Claws and I Finally Understand.
In a post on Instagram the pop star, real name Charlotte Emma Aitchison, wrote: “The documentary tells the story of not only the 5 week process surrounding the making of my album, how i’m feeling now, but also all the emotions that creating, connecting and living in a quarantine and in basically a new world evokes for people across the globe.”
Bradley and Pablo posted: “Thanks and love to the incredible creative team who have worked tirelessly to bring this project to light… It’s been hard, it’s been emotional, it’s been fun and we have learnt a lot. It’s not really how we imagined making our first feature film but here it is at @SXSW… 2020 is definitely not a year we are going to forget!”
Charli XCX was first discovered after posting songs on Myspace, and became a household name after collaborating with Swedish duo Icona Pop on 2012 single I Love It. She is also well-known for hits such as Boom Clap, Fancy, and Boys.
The SXSW Film Festival 2021 will be taking place on March 16th-20th. It usually takes place in Austin, Texas; however, it was cancelled in 2020, and will be entirely virtual in 2021. It will also be premiering films such as Demi Lovato: Dancing with the Devil and Confronting a Serial Killer.
