Cian Ducrot has released his newest single Not Usually Like This. The melancholic pop song tells the powerful story, inspired by real-life experiences of losing love and not being able to process where it all went wrong.
Speaking about how he wrote Not Usually Like This, Cian said to HotPress; “Not Usually Like This was the first time that I really dug into my past and was able to go to a place and write a song about something that I previously wouldn’t have been able to put into words. It was both difficult and easy, but I learned a lot from writing this song.”
Cian also explained in a TikTok video that the song is about a girl he fell in love with at 14 who broke his heart. He remembered how he then found out that she was dating his best friend who he had known since he was 4.
The song was accompanied by a beautifully made music video, directed by Harry Law. The video really encapsulates the themes in the song perfectly. Speaking on his Instagram story about the video’s Creative Director, Emily Barker, Harry Law said; “It all started with @emilybarkercreative !! who planted this beautiful seed and shaped it from start to finish. Loved every minute of this tango. Thank you for everything. Hats off.”
This is Cian’s first release after his Started in College (Mixtape) came out in July. The mixtape is full of emotion and tells the story of navigating through life and finding where you fit into it all. In an Instagram post announcing the release, Cian said; “It’s the end of a chapter of the last 2 years of my life before I begin a new one and I am so excited to capture it in this body of work and to share it all with you guys forever.”
Cian built a huge fanbase throughout his time in lockdown over the popular video app TikTok. He creates funny videos and also shares his music. He currently has over 600k followers and has reached 21m likes. He is a great example of an artist who is popular in different mediums and has developed a fanbase that likes both his music and his personality.
