In a press statement given by the duo about the song, Tom Smith said that he received it from Andy Burrows while Smith was on tour with the Editors’. He further said, “With this tune the heavy lifting was done by Andy, it was his pretty complete song I added some finishing touches on. I knew as soon as I heard his idea it was a stone-cold Bee Gees meets Backstreet Boys classic, just needed a little happy sad chorus from me. What else are we here for, other than to love somebody, anybody?”
Burrows commented that he was in an “emotional” head space while he wrote the song and that Smith “beefed up” the track to make it sound more upbeat and complete. He further said that the song is “an ode to rumination”, he added “Too much time in your own head, catastrophising… and a subsequent need for reconnection”
The duo’s sophomore album ‘Only Smith And Burrows Is Good Enough’ is set to release after a gap of a decade, with their last release being 2011’s ‘Funny Looking Angels’.
