Brighton natives, Squid, have announced their forthcoming album Bright Green Field will be arriving in May 7th of this year via Warp. The band announced the record alongside the release of the music video for Narrator, their latest single of the upcoming LP. The video was released on YouTube today and was directed by Felix Green, it can be seen below.
This is the group’s first released music video to date as they are recent in the music industry. Director Green described his process and the unique creativity within the music video, stating in a press release that, “I often think this ‘behind the digital curtain’ part of 3D design looks more interesting than the final finished product since it conveys a process and an authorship. When I was approached to pitch on ‘Narrator’ I immediately thought it could be the perfect match for this very visual idea.”
Squid is comprised of 5 key members who met in university, Louis Borlase, Oliver Judge, Arthur Leadbetter, Laurie Nankivell and Anton Pearson, who became friends in Brighton in 2015. The band’s style has been defined by their relationship, saying that the group connected “over a love of ambient and jazz, they began playing together at a local jazz café. Their tastes widened and skills expanded, and soon the propulsive sounds of 1970s Germany found its way into the band’s already eclectic palate.”
In 2017, the band released their first EP Lino which helped the band gain a wider audience throughout the UK. Soon followed Squid’s most successful singles to date, Terrestrial Changeover Blues (2007-2012) and The Dial, which was produced by the renowned Dan Carey who is known for working with artists like Black Midi.
Squid soon gained popularity and played the 2019 Glastonbury. They received success through their stand alone singles, playing festivals and featuring on BBC Radio 6.
Today marks the beginning of their refined career with the announcement on their first ever full-length album and music video. The track and afformentioned singles are available and streaming on all platforms at this time and their upcoming album Bright Green Field is available for pre-purchase now.
