Rising English outfit YONAKA shared their brand new single ‘Seize the Power‘ at midnight today. The alt rockers channeled their alternative side with an EDM-fueled banger about taking control, fighting back and believing in yourself. The track is the first new music from the band since their widely praised debut record Don’t Wait ‘Till Tomorrow from 2019 and its re-imagined follow-up Stripped Back from last May 2020.
Reinvigorated, YONAKA seem ready and excited to embark on a “new chapter” and keep the momentum and attitude going forward. ‘Seize The Power‘ is out now on all streaming platforms via Creature Records, and the band said: “We are so excited for the world to hear Seize The Power. It’s been so long since we released new music and the time has finally come; this is a new chapter for us. We want you to get lost in a feeling of strength and empowerment when listening to this song.”

‘Seize the Power‘ revolves around dramatic build-ups fuelled by singer Theresa Jarvis’ rebellious rants, split with atmospheric vocal-centered transitions and deep EDM-influenced bass lines. Fresh and somewhat unusual for YONAKA’s establishes style, the single maintains the band’s intensity, punk attitude and rock sensibility, intertwined within a catchy contemporary banger. The track is written and entirely self-produced at their home studio in Brighton by the band consisting of Theresa Jarvis (vocals), Alex Crosby (bass), George Werbrouck-Edwards (guitar) and Rob Mason (drums).
Earlier today YONAKA scheduled an exclusive live chat with fans tuning in from 7:30 pm followed by the official video at 8 pm that is gradually building up views with 2,500 and counting at the time of publishing. Focused on Jarvis kept in a futuristic glass prison cell, the dystopian video is directed by Jade Ang Jackman from Black Dog Films – the company responsible for recent viral projects such as Run The Jewels’ ‘Walking In The Snow‘ and Burna Boy’s ‘Real Life‘ (ft. Stormzy). Production credit for the effective visualization go to Lauren Mills and Martin Roker.
In case you have been sleeping on the Brighton quartet’s productive years, YONAKA formed back in 2014 with three initial EPs Heavy (2017), Teach Me To Fight (2018) and Creature (2018), and to establish them as an exciting rising act aiming to storm UK’s modern rock scene. Building up on a memorable tour with Bring Me The Horizon and Fever 333, the alternative rock outfit premiered their debut Don’t Wait ‘Till Tomorrow in May 2019 via Asylum Records, landing them an instant #38 spot at the UK Official Albums Charts.
Most recently, YONAKA appeared on the second edition of the virtual Five4Five festival in support of the Save Our Venues campaign alongside Holding Absense, Vukovi, Hacktibist, Nova Twins, and many others. If somehow government restrictions are lifted soon and live events return to normal, the band are going to perform few gigs in April and May, with tickets available and information available here.
