Matty Healy from the 1975 states that the band may be able to play ‘one or two intimate gigs’ if the COVID-19 pandemic ‘cleans up a bit’. This news comes shortly after the band have completely cancelled their 2021 tour, due to the ongoing pandemic. Healy wrote on his Instagram Story: “If COVID does clean up a bit and ‘small shows’ are available in like the autumn or winter I will definitely do that s***. One or two intimate shows if possible.”
This is not the first time the band have done small, intimate gigs. In December 2018, The 1975 did a very ‘tiny, tiny’ show at the Camden Assembly. This is where the band played their first ever London gig, known as the Camden Barfly then. Presented by Spotify Premium, the intimate gig was said to be a massive success, marking 5 years since the bands first gig in London. The gig showcased new singles from their upcoming album ‘A Brief Inquiry in to Online Relationships’.
Healy’s hope of doing some intimate shows if lockdown lifts and the government restrictions allow, presents hope for The 1975 fans. The band have said in their Instagram post that they’re ‘currently working on a new album and look forward to seeing you at a show as soon as it is safe to do so.’ This could potentially be sooner than thought with the hope of some small gigs on the horizon! The new album has also been confirmed by the frontman himself to have collaborations with Charli XCX and Beabadoobee.
