The Swedish pop-icon Robyn has announced she will host BBC Radio 6 for a special New Year’s Eve radio party, starting tomorrow at 7pm GMT and ending at 9pm GMT. She will be taking on selector responsibilities, choosing the entire NYE playlist for 2 hours and when discussing her excitement for the radio party Robyn thanked BBC Radio 6 on social media for giving her maybe best gig ever. She continued with a quick remark about the Covid-19 riddled 2020 saying that it’s been a shitty year so it feels special to select music for this NYE which is always, whether we want or not, a symbolic day
BBC Radio 6 is just as excited for Robyn to host and when announcing the music style to be expected from the star, BBC Radio 6 explained it as effortlessly cool beats to loud and proud anthems, the Queen of the Sad Bangers takes charge of 6 Music for one night only, and we are delighted to embrace her wild, weird and wonderful world! Robyn’s tendency towards nostalgic and love-sick techno-pop bangers will ring in the new year with exactly the kind of tunes the UK is hungry for leading up to the end of 2020.
Robyn recently reached a milestone in her career in 2020 as her world-wide epochal album Body Talk celebrated it’s 10th anniversary since sale. The platinum hit Dancing On My Own skyrocketed to the top of the charts in the UK in 2010 and surged again many times in the last 10 years leading Rolling Stone and many other acclaimed critics to name it the best song of it’s decade. The celebration of her most successful era of music and the winning of Songwriter of the Decade from NME last month, Robyn has had a monumental 2020 despite the lack of tour-dates or new music.
In 2018 Robyn officially released her critically acclaimed 8th studio album Honey, after first releasing it for the HBO series Girls finale. She then spent the majority of 2019 on tour in Europe, UK and North America. While there has been no new music from the sensational artist in 2020, Robyn has been working as an activist for climate change, attending events and playing shows to raise money and awareness for the global issue.
When announcing the Robyn slot on social-media BBC Radio 6 stated that a lot of us might be dancing on our own at home this New Years Eve, but thankfully we have Robyn, the Queen of solo dancing supplying the soundtrack.
