Ivy Lab have released their newest EP Blonde. In October, the duo announced they would be releasing 15 tracks, divided up into three EPs. The first of the EPs, Fidget came out in October with Teacup following it in November.
Blonde is the perfect EP to finish out the series with as it perfectly mixes the versatility of Fidget and the heavier side of Teacup to create the downtempo and beautiful collection of songs that is Blonde. The duo described the EP on their Instagram as; “Fidget & Teacup’s grumpier, grey-weather cousin.”
The EP finishes out with the title track Blonde, which is the ideal ending for this series as a whole, the pretty and uplifting tones gives the feeling of hope, both an interesting way to finish an EP series and a year that has left us itching for New Years Eve.

In a Reddit AMA earlier this week, Ivy Lab were asked by a fan about their song selection for the EP series and how they would select tracks for an LP. They replied saying; “I think EP’s are more or less the default mindset for us. Singles tend to be tracks that we want to get out there quickly.. that urgency often being defined by a track (culturally, or seasonly) belonging to the zeitgeist, or enjoying some invaluable viral popularity that needs satisfying.”
“For an LP, I think we’d want a strong sense of a wider meta-narrative across the collection of tracks and that common strand isn’t something we chase. It would need to come to us organically, probably before we start composing or at least completing tracks. The most important thing for anything that 3 tracks+ is how coherent a listening experience the project is start though finish, which I guess is a little dated an aspiration but it stills matters to us.”
Ivy Lab are a North London duo, brought together by a shared enthusiasm for experimentations on the fringes of the UK bass music scene. They were named by Mixmag as ‘The top 10 DJ’s of 2015’. They’ve since released a multitude of EPs and singles and have gained 79.2k followers on their Soundcloud.
