A month ago we published an article listing the nominations for the prestigious AMAs or American Music Awards (see here) well last night the American Music Awards was broadcast and winners were widely announced.
As predicted in our initial article, the likes of Taylor Swift, The Weeknd and Ed Sheeran all picking up awards. Taylor Swift herself won the most, picking up three awards (if you recall she was nominated for a record six separate awards). Swift won Song of the Year for ‘Blank Space’, Favourite Pop/Rock Album for ‘1989’ as well as Favourite Adult Contemporary Artist. As said The Weeknd’s reputation in music continues to go from strength to strength winning two awards (Favourite Soul/R&B Male Artist and Favourite Soul/R&B Album for ‘Beauty Behind The Madness’)
Despite it being the American Music Awards there was definite English representation among the winners, with pop band One Direction picking up Artist of The Year for the second consecutive year as well as Favourite Group. Ed Sheeran won Favourite Pop/Rock Male Artist
However the Awards ended on a poignant note, with Québécoise singer Céline Dion performing a performance of Édith Piaf’s ‘L’hymne à L’amour’ in tribute to last weeks terrorist attacks in Paris. See the performance below:
Coldplay and Justin Bieber were also among the live performances for what was an unforgettable night:
