Kylie Minogue has performed Earth, Wind and Fire’s September for BBC Radio 2 to celebrate the release of her new album Disco. The cover incorporated her own song Spinning Around into a piano-led rendition of the disco hit. You can watch the cover below.
Disco, her 16th studio album, came out on Friday 6th of November and included singles such as Magic, Say Something and I Love It. The album rocketed to number one in the UK Official Album Charts, making Kylie break an insane chart record.
She is officially the first female artist to have a number one album in five different decades. Talking about this, Kylie said; “I’m lost for words. Thank-you to everyone who has supported this album. I’m so touched that it’s made its way to your hearts. I love it.”
Only five other acts have topped the Official Chart across five consecutive decades, they are, Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Paul Weller, Bruce Springsteen and David Gilmour. Iconic acts such as The Beatles, Elvis Presley, The Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan have also landed chart-toppers across five decades, though not consecutively.
To celebrate the release of Disco, Kylie held a livestreamed concert, Infinite Disco, which showcased the singer’s infinite talent as she took to the stage with her dancers for a fifty-minute show to a virtual audience. The lack of an audience did not deter her from exuding stage presence as she called out to her fans constantly, making it feel like a real show amongst the second lockdown.
Disco is out now on all platforms, you can listen below.
