Paul Weller is set to release a new EP featuring remixes of tracks from his latest album On Sunset. Artists who’ve remixed songs from the record – which topped the UK album charts earlier this year – include Mind Control; multi-talented Welsh electropop artist Gwenno; Senegalese musician Seckou Keita; Widnes folktronica merchant Jane Weaver; psychedelic Londoners Le Superhomard; and James Skelly (aka Skeleton Key) of The Coral. Weller announced the new EP on his social media platforms earlier today.
The On Sunset Remixes EP is available to pre-order now on a limited edition 12” heavyweight LP. Skeleton Key’s remix of single More is available on streaming platforms now ahead of the album’s general release on November 27th.
2020 has been a busy year for The Modfather. The year began with a release of another EP – the experimental In Another Room – ahead of the release of On Sunset in July. The album was met with broadly positive reviews, including from the Guardian who described it as “have-your-cake-and-eat-it Weller.”
In addition to the new EP, next month Weller will also be streaming Mid-Sommar Musik, an hour-long musical special featuring performances of brand new material, full band versions of tracks from On Sunset and 2018’s True Meanings. Fans in the UK, Ireland and Europe will be able to stream the special gig – which was recorded in the summer – from 8pm on November 12th.
Another date for the Paul Weller aficionado’s diary is October 31st, and the premiere of Style Council documentary Long Hot Summers on Sky Arts. The film covers The Style Council’s six-year career – which produced eleven top 20 singles in the UK and three Gold certified albums – and will feature contributions from the band themselves as well new wave contemporaries and celebrity fans.

Weller was also due to go on tour with his daughter Leah this year to coincide with her debut single Change and its follow-up Strangers, which are rumoured to precede an EP or album release over the coming months. In an NME interview in September Leah Weller admitted it would be hard for her to avoid comparisons with her musical parents (her mother Dee C Lee was a member of The Style Council and a backing vocalist with Wham!).
She said “I think that with anybody who puts something out, there’s always the fear that it might be judged, as it’s something that’s very personal to you. I do usually run stuff past my dad to see what his opinion is, from the musician’s point of view. I would rather show it to my dad and him give me his feedback than release something that’s really not good and hear it from someone else. My parents have always been just very supportive no matter what I wanted to do.”
The track listing for the On Sunset remixes EP is as follows:
1. More – Skeleton Key Remix
2. Old Father Tyme – Gwenno Remix
3. Rockets – Seckou Keita Remix
4. On Sunset – Le SuperHomard Mix
5. Rockets – Jane Weaver / Mind Control Mix
