Bea Kristi, known professionally as Beabadoobee, released a new single and accompanying music video for track Together on BBCRadio1 today, October 13th at 6pm. Together was the fourth released single off her upcoming 2020 album Fake it Flowers.
The British-Filipino artist’s latest single follows suit with the other released tracks off of the upcoming debut album, Care, Worth it, Sorry and How Was Your Day?, as an ode to 90’s alt-rock music with a taste for basement vibes. Her video release today for Together features the lead singer with spiked 90’s hair and her style has a punk-rock aesthetic that pays homage to early Avril Lavigne. This portrays a new alt-rock-pop-persona that is growing in popularity because of young artists like Beaboadoobee transitioning into the genre.
Baebadoobee is uniquely talented at merging genres, namely alternative rock and pop, with a certain flare that keeps her music fresh and specifically youthful. Her moody distorted vocals and the classic rock guitar riffs are married to lyrics that millennials are particularly drawn to.
In keeping with younger audiences, Baebadoobee first gained popularity through YouTube videos and releases before signing with Dirty Hit Records where she went on to release the EP Coffee that catapulted her into the cult-following she now has. Coffee was described as a bedroom hit because of the stripped back and intimate nature of the recording’s final cut.
However, the brand new single Together is more of a production heavy hit. The single features a heavy drum and electric guitar that would make this a loud break-out single against her more acoustic pop hit Coffee. Baebadoobee has been transitioning into alt-rock forms of pop since 2019 when she released the hit single She Plays Bass which was the beginning of the introduction of alternative rock vibes into her music. She Plays Bass continues to trend as the hottest record on BBCRadio1 even tonight.
