South African DJ, producer, and singer-songwriter Black Coffee collaborated on new song ‘Ready For You’ with British singer-songwriter Celeste, which was released yesterday, 17th September. The single has gained over 6,000 listens on YouTube already, and a warm reception from fans and critics.
The song has an electro-pop sound with R&B and jazz influences, as Celeste’s vocal sits in the foreground of the track, supported by a spacious instrumental. With lyrics such as “I need your voice to save me/I need the sun to kiss my skin/Wake up, no time to go backwards”, hope and love are major themes in this upbeat new release.
Black Coffee shared the release with his followers on Instagram, saying, “Hope the world is READY FOR YOU! My latest song single with @celeste is OUT NOW on all platforms! This beauty is a first glance into my forthcoming album…”
This is the first mention of a new album from the artist, and follows his numerous works of 2020, which included collaborations with Sabrina Claudio, Martine Thomas, Soulstar, Hugh Masekela, and Tsepo. Both Claudio and Celeste are confirmed as featured artists on the upcoming album, along with Pharrell Williams, Diplo, and N*E*R*D.
Black Coffee, real name Nkosinathi Innocent Maphumulo, has reached the point of global recognition after beginning his career in 1994. His style has evolved greatly throughout various genres, from jazz, to soul, to pop, and has taken influence from various genres and artists. His past collaborators include Alicia Keys, Usher, Drake, and David Guetta. Black Coffee has put out a total of five studio albums, with his latest work arriving in the near future.
Celeste has had an incredible two years, winning both a Brit Award and a BBC Music Award in 2019, causing her to be named predicted breakthrough act of 2020 by numerous critics. She began her career as a session singer, recording vocals for artists such as Avicii, before signing to her own label as an artist in 2016. She has since released two EPs, toured with Michael Kiwanuka, and shared plans to release a debut album in January 2021.
