Sam Smith has announced that they will be releasing their newest single Diamonds, this Friday, 18th September. They took to Instagram to announce the news saying; “New music is on the way!! Can’t wait to share Diamonds with you gorgeous people.” Diamonds will be Sam’s second single of 2020, after they released To Die For in February. They have also released collaborations with other artists such as Demi Lovato, Burna Boy and Tiwa Savage.
Sam decided to postpone and re-name their third studio album in March as they didn’t feel the original title To Die For was appropriate because of the COVID-19 global pandemic. They announced this on Twitter, saying; “I have done a lot of thinking the last few weeks and feel that the title of my album and imminent release doesn’t feel right, have come to the decision to continue working on the album and make some important changes and additions.”
While we don’t have a confirmed date for the album, according to The List, when speaking about the new album, Sam said; “It’s really deep into exploring my gender, exploring my queerness. I changed my pronouns and I was feeling so happy to be myself. I was going out in Los Angeles a lot and I was dancing and I was drinking loads, having a wonderful time with all my friends. I went into the studio and the guys who were writing with me said: ‘What do you want to say?’”
Diamonds will be out this Friday 18th September on all platforms.
