Renowned UK dubstep DJ and producer Doctor P dropped a brand new single featuring rising Scottish pop star Koolkid. Titled ‘OD’ the track was released via the independent label Circus Records, found by Doctor P and Flux Pavillion in 2009. It is the first new material since the release of Doctor P’s debut studio record Animal Vegetable Mineral, Pt. 2 in March this year.
Incorporating Koolkid’s pop sensiblity ‘OD‘ builds around a catchy chorus and an overall feel-good vibe throughout the track. Lacking harsh drops and heavily distorted melodies, Doctor P switches to a more liquid-oriented dubstep bassline and a distinctive radio-friendly EDM approach. With a suitable featuring and infectious dance beat, ‘OD‘ has all the initial markings of a chart entry and a future club anthem.
Despite not being a regular chart performer in the past, Doctor P has been a leading force in the UK dubstep scene for more than ten years. Born Shaun Brookhurst, he teamed up with Flux Pavillion, DJ Swan-E and Earl Falconer from UB40 in 2009 to establish Circus Records with the the sole purpose on bringing dubstep to the mainstream and building a lasting electronic community. With many years of solo singles, collaborations, DJ sessions and and endless repertoir of remixes, Doctor P only recently released his first full-lenght record Animal Vegetable, Mineral Pt. 2, linking it to his well-known first part EP from 2012.
Initial reactions of the fresh release ‘OD’ have been predominently positive with EDM.com praising the collaboration for its perfect blend of pop tropes and dubstep beats, and Doctor P’s use of his “style to give the track just the right amount of energy leading into its chorus“. Meanwhile, YourEDM highlights the surprising nature of the renowned DJ’s music and signature use of different genres for what is truly a “fantastic song“.

Koolkid has been involved with writing for best-selling pop stars and big labels for a while now but really came up on media’s radar after co-writing BTS’ chart-topping hit ‘Mikrokosmos‘ from their latest EP Map of the Soul: Persona. So far he has been very active in 2020 debuting his first three singles ‘2 Soon‘, ‘Feelings‘ and ‘We’re So Blind‘, the last being accompanied by a video shot during lockdown and partnering with UK’s leading anty-bullying charity BulliesOut.
Recently Koolkid also released an acoustic version of his three singles, further showcasing his vocal and lyrical talent. The latest featuring alongside Doctor P for the more-EDM oriented ‘OD‘ comes to no surprise as only a few weeks ago he appeared on a brand new track ‘I Want Your Body‘ by Dark Heart, released through the famous Dutch electronic label Spinnin’ Records. Following an impressively productive year, the ambitious young singer is determined to keep on expanding his fanbase, has his eyes set on the UK and US charts and recently told Riot Magazine “the best is yet to come“.
