Circa Waves’ double album ‘Sad Happy’ was released in March 2020, and had planned a UK tour to run throughout the spring and summer. Upon government advice, these shows were postponed to September with the safety of both the audience and crew in mind. Today, the band announced a further postponement of the tour, which will now take place in March 2021.
Frontman Kieran Shudall posted on the band’s online platforms to inform fans. The statement read: “We will play these shows if it’s the last thing we do!!! We have been told we have to move the gigs to March. We are really disappointed that we can’t play for you this year but safety is obviously the most important thing.”
He continued, “It’s mad to release an album in March and not get to play the songs till a whole year later,” but reminded fans of how amazing the performances will be, asking them to retain their tickets for next year. For any listeners who haven’t yet purchased tickets, they are available now from the Circa Waves website.
‘Sad Happy’ reached number 4 on the UK Albums Chart and received a warm reception from fans and critics alike. Released via Prolifica Records, it included singles ‘Jacqueline’, ‘Move To San Francisco’, ‘Battered & Bruised’, and title track, ‘Sad Happy’.
As a double album, the first part was named ‘Happy’, and released on 10th January, while the second was titled ‘Sad’, and shared on 13th March. This is Circa Waves’ fourth studio album, after previous LPs ‘Young Chasers’, ‘Different Creatures’, and ‘What’s It Like Over There?’.
The band consists of members Kieran Shudall (lead vocals, guitar), Joe Falconer (lead guitar), Sam Rourke (bass), Colin Jones (drums). Despite not being able to tour currently, the group have recorded music in the form of their most recent single – a cover of The La’s ‘There She Goes’, released on 20th June.
