Primal Scream’s former guitarist Robert ‘Throb’ Young has passed away at the age of 49.
A spokesperson for Sussex police told The Guardian “Police were called to a report of a man who was found dead in a flat in Hove at 3.30pm on Tuesday 9th September. He has been identified as Robert Young, 49, of Hove. His death is not being treated as suspicious.”
Young (pictured, left) had left Primal Scream in 2006. Originally the band’s bassist, switched to guitar after the release of the first album in time to pick up the Mercury Prize with the band for ‘Screamadelica’.
Twitter has seen an outpouring of love for Young by his contemporaries, including Liam Gallagher, Irvine Welsh and Tim Burgess. Former Primal Scream bandmate, and current Stone Roses member, Mani confirmed the news in a message on Primal Scream’s forum which stated “Robert young, AKA the throb, passed away this weekend in hove. Truly devastating news.”
