Timothy Lanham, keyboardist of English indie rock band The Vaccines, has ventured into the realm of solo singles this week with the release of his new track, “Holiday,” which can be seen below. Serving as the opening entry to his new, ongoing project T Truman, the video went live yesterday (June 23rd) and has already accrued 700 views on the new T Truman YouTube channel. Of the few comments so far threaded to the fresh video, one user (Aktiki) has very kindly typed out many of the song’s lyrics:
Don’t wanna die on a conference call / Don’t wanna work part-time at the mall / Wanna be seen with an elegant lady / But I still wanna be paid, Baby
Opting for a chintzy lo-fi aesthetic, Lantham’s video was self-filmed and self-edited. In an interview with NME, the product has been described by its creator as something which “looks like an Anchorman feat. Joe Exotic unofficial tribute video, but that’s what you get when you leave me in self-isolation with a handycam.”
The subsequent debut EP is set to see the light of day later this year, released under the new T Truman moniker, according to the above cited NME article. The fresh album was reportedly co-written and co-produced as a collection in collaboration with Lanham’s friend and fellow musician Geoff Roberts.
Encapsulating the raison d’etre of this new one-man artistic venture, Lanham has been quoted in a recent interview with DIY Magazine as saying T Truman is an alter-ego to be employed as a “writing scapegoat.” Asserting that if he were to “take the lyrics completely seriously,” Lanham proposes that “I don’t think I’d like me.” The article further details the conditions under which the video was produced, “filmed at his family home in Australia during quarantine.”
And if that isn’t a great way to make the most of lockdown, I can’t say what else is.
