Have you always dreamed about the members of Queen being on your letters? Then listen up, because your dream is about to become reality. In honour of the 50th anniversary of the legendary band, Queen will appear on UK postage stamps in July – everyone say, “thank you, Royal Mail!”
They will be the third band to receive this honour, following The Beatles in 2007 and Pink Floyd in 2016. The stamps will be released in a set of 13, including eight album covers (“Queen II”, “Sheer Heart Attack”, “A Night at the Opera”, “News of the World”, “The Game”, “Greatest Hits”, “The Works” and “Innuendo”), a classic group photo and four live group photos.
Queen guitarist Brian May is overwhelmed by the honour, as he’s stated in a press release: “It’s hard to put into words what I feel when looking at these beautiful stamps.”

Looking at himself on a postage stamp has made May realise how big Queen have become: “Since we four precocious boys started out on our quest 50 years ago, our lives have been devoted to making our impossible dream come true. Sometimes it’s strange to wake up and realise the position in which we are now held – we have become a national institution!”
“Nothing brings this home more than this incredible tribute from Royal Mail. It’s particularly poignant to look at this collection of images now – now that we are all in a world dominated by a coronavirus, in which none of this could have happened.”
Drummer Roger Taylor has also described the stamps as “an honour.” “We must be really part of the furniture now! Thanks, Royal Mail for stamping on us! In gratitude.”
The various collections can now be pre-ordered via the Royal Mail website here. The entire set of 13 stamps is called the “Presentation Pack” and will cost £16. The stamps will be available to purchase on July 9.
