British singer/songwriter Foxes has finally returned to the music scene after four years with a brand-new single, “Love Not Loving You“. The song is her first work since her sophomore album ‘All I Need‘ in 2016, and it is the singer’s first release under her new contract with [PIAS] Recordings.
“Love Not Loving You” is a brilliant electropop tune for a bright day in summer. After the beginning with refreshing 8-bit synth, strings of catchy ooh-ooh’s come flooding in, alongside thumping 80s drum beats.
“I don’t need you to call me to tell me I’m alright. I don’t need you to knock on my door in the dead of the night, no,” Foxes declares her sassy, newfound independence in the opening lines. And there comes the hook of the track: “You broke me out of a fever. You make me feel like someone else. You make me dance like I mean it. Now I love, now I love, now I love not loving you.” What perfect lyrics for all the resilient heartbroken in quarantine!
The single is also premiered alongside a music video directed by Rauri Cantelo. It seems very obvious that the clip is shot under quarantine but still serves a great visual and editing of Foxes’ different looks alternating with numerous pieces of classical artworks.
Foxes, whose real name is Louisa Rose Allen, first broke into the music scene as a vocal feature on Zedd’s 2012 blockbuster single “Clarity“. The song received commercial success across the globe and won a Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording in 2014, marking Foxes’ first major award winning.
The songstress became one of the exciting pop acts at the time and got signed to Sony Music UK’s imprint Sign of the Times. She dropped her very first solo track “Youth” in 2013, followed by debut album ‘Glorious‘ in 2014. The album spawned hit singles with the likes of “Let Go for Tonight” and “Holding onto Heaven“, both of which hit UK Singles Chart’s top 20.
The Southampton-born star kept on building her stardom with second LP ‘All I Need‘ in 2016. The record showcased Foxes’ improved artistry and venture into a cinematic pop territory. Despite moderate success, the album was served with impressive promotional tracks such as “Body Talk“, “Feet Don’t Fail Me Now“, “Amazing“, and Bastille’s Dan Smith-assisted “Better Love“.
After teasing new music back in 2018, the “Glorious” singer eventually announced the release of the first single titled “Love Not Loving You” from the upcoming third studio album, which will be released via Foxes’ new label [PIAS] Recordings sometime this year.
According to Music Week, [PIAS]’s head of A&R Russell Crank expressed his delight to have Foxes in their home. “We’re delighted to have signed Louisa to our [PIAS] Recordings label. She’s a unique talent with a singular creative vision, and amongst the finest of British songwriters. It’s great to be part of an exciting new team working on the next phase of her career,” said Crank.
